Genoa CEO Andres Blazquez has claimed that Tottenham Hotspur new boy Radu Dragusin wanted to stay on at the club beyond the end of the winter transfer window.

Tottenham splashed out more than €30m to sign the 22-year-old centre-back from the Serie A side in the recently concluded transfer window.

In a period of low spending by Premier League clubs, Dragusin’s arrival became one of the highlights of the transfer window in the top flight of English football.

Bayern Munich also wanted him but the defender ultimately chose to join Tottenham with a view that he could again move on to a bigger club in the near future.

However, Blasquez revealed that the Romanian actually did not want to leave Genoa in the winter window.

Genoa ultimately decided to sell him as it allowed the club to further strengthen the squad in key areas in January.

“He wanted to stay and help us achieve our goals”, the Genoa CEO told Sky Italia (via Calciomercato.it).

“But his sale was necessary to acquire new players such as [Emil] Bohinen, [Djed] Spence, [David] Ankeye and Vitinha.”

Dragusin is yet to start a game in the Premier League for Tottenham and all his three appearances have come from the bench.
