Former top flight star Gordon Dalziel has stressed that Callum McGregor’s form should be a real concern for Celtic as the club captain is not doing much on the pitch at the moment.

McGregor is the first name on Brendan Rodgers’ team-sheet and has been an immensely successful player at Celtic over the years.

Following Scott Brown’s exit a few years ago, he became the club captain and has played a major role in Celtic’s continued success in domestic football.

However, Dalziel stressed that his performances have dropped this season and at the moment he is not doing much on the pitch in terms of contribution to the team.

The former top-flight star indicated that it is hard for the team to pick themselves up when the club captain himself is not pulling his weight regarding his individual performance.

Dalziel said on Clyde 1’s Superscoreboard: “The captain is the main man for me.

“He is the leader, he is the one everyone looks up to, he is the guy who talks in the huddle, he is the guy who has won everything for Celtic and knows what it takes.

“Whether he is just having a real run of bad form, I don’t know but he is not contributing anything.”

McGregor will hope to improve as he may well be not likely to be dropped from the team due to his status at the club.
