Former Celtic star Andy Walker has insisted that more was expected from Alexandro Bernabei given the money the Bhoys spent on him.

Celtic signed the left-back from Lanus in the summer of 2022 for a fee of £3.75m but he is yet to nail down a certain starting spot in the team.

With Greg Taylor out injured, Bernabei has started the last three league games and his performances have been praised by Brendan Rodgers.

However, Walker insisted that the Argentinian has been nothing more than OK in the last few games for the Scottish champions.

He pointed out that Celtic spent a considerable fee on Bernabei and more would have been expected of him when he joined.

And the former Bhoy stressed that Greg Taylor remains the first-choice left-back at Celtic when he is fit and ready to play.

Walker said on the Go Radio Football Show: “I think he has just been OK.

“He signed for a lot of money and you expected more but the fact remains Greg Taylor, despite him being there, has always been the undisputed number one.

“I know a lot of Celtic supporters would like the left-back area to be strengthened.

“I think he has been OK in the last couple of games, but nothing more.”

Bernabei will be facing a strong challenge for the shirt from Taylor, who is expected to be back this coming weekend.
