Ajax have reached a broad agreement with Arsenal target Jorrel Hato over a new contract, it has been claimed in the Netherlands.

The 17-year-old centre-back has been the lynchpin of Ajax’s defence this season despite his tender years.

His performances have piqued the interest of clubs across Europe and he has attracted special attention from Arsenal.

The Gunners have been preparing to try and sign him in the summer but it has been claimed that a move might not happen in the coming months.

According to Dutch daily the Algemeen Dagblad, a broad agreement is in place between Ajax and the player over a new deal.

Hato’s current deal has little less than 18 months left on it and Ajax have been trying to convince him to sign a new deal.

It has been suggested that the club are now on their way to signing the youngster on a new long-term contract.

Ajax feel the new deal will end up allowing them to keep Hato at the club beyond the next summer transfer window.

His suitors might not need to wait a bit longer to snare him out of Ajax in the future.
