Newcastle United winger Anthony Gordon admits he was fortunate that he did not miss out on England duty due to injury.

Gordon’s participation in the England squad over the international break was in doubt when he was forced off in Newcastle’s loss at Chelsea earlier this month.

The former Everton man avoided serious injury however and Three Lions boss Gareth Southgate was able to include him in his squad.

Gordon made his senior England debut against Brazil and is hoping to now be involved against Belgium before he heads back to Newcastle.

He admits he is fortunate that injury did not rule him out of what he feels was the best day of his life.

“It was chaotic when I came off [against Chelsea] and I didn’t know what was going to happen. Everything was up in the air”, Gordon was quoted as saying by the BBC.

“But I was really fortunate to miss out on any injury and I got to live the best day of my life.”

Newcastle boss Eddie Howe will be hoping that if Gordon does feature against Belgium then he avoids injury.

Howe’s men are in action at the weekend in the Premier League when they play host to West Ham United at St James’ Park.
