Serie A giants Lazio are set to try and convince Aston Villa target Matteo Guendouzi to stay at the club beyond the summer transfer window.

The 25-year-old midfielder has been heavily linked with a move to Villa Park in the upcoming transfer window.

Unai Emery has massive admiration for a player he coached at Arsenal and wants to reunite with him at Villa.

Lazio are insistent that they do not want to sell the player despite suggestions that Guendouzi does not suit Igor Tudor’s two-man midfield.

According to Italian daily Corriere dello Sport (via Lalaziosiamonoi), Lazio are now trying to convince the player to continue at the Stadio Olimpico.

The Serie A giants are set to hold talks with the player’s agents and try to bring some calm to the situation.

Guendouzi did not start the last two Serie A games but Lazio are insistent that they want to keep him at the club.

Aston Villa remain keen to land Guendouzi and will hope he communicates a clear desire to leave the club to Lazio.
