Valencia have made an enquiry into the possibility of signing Everton defender Mason Holgate in the final two days of the transfer window, according to journalist Pete O’Rourke.

The 27-year-old defender spent last season on loan at Southampton and Sheffield United and has a year left on his contract.

He is not a major part of Sean Dyche’s plans and Everton would prefer to move him on before the end of the window on Friday night.

A few clubs in the Championship are alive to the possibility of picking Holgate up but he is now attracting interest from Spain.

It has been claimed that Valencia are interested in exploring a deal to sign Holgate in the dying embers of the transfer window.

The Spanish outfit have made an enquiry to assess the potential of taking Holgate to the Mestalla in the next 48 hours.

Valencia are trying to understand the conditions of a deal that could take the defender to Spain.

Everton would prefer to sell over a loan given he only has a year left on his contract with the club.
