Burnley are prepared to lower their demands for Newcastle United target James Trafford with little over a day left in the transfer window, according to journalist Alan Nixon.

Newcastle have had their eyes on Trafford since the start of the summer but failed to strike a deal with Burnley earlier in the window.

While the club have been preoccupied with trying to get Marc Guehi, they never lost sight of the Burnley goalkeeper and are now prepared to move in the dying embers of the transfer window.

Newcastle are preparing to table an offer to try and sign the goalkeeper on deadline day.

It has been claimed that Burnley are also prepared to compromise on the fee they want for Trafford.

The Clarets earlier quoted a fee of £30m for the 21-year-old goalkeeper, which Newcastle were not prepared to shell out.

Burnley are now ready to accept an offer north of the £20m mark for Trafford on deadline day.

Newcastle are pushing to secure a deal to sign the goalkeeper before the window closes an hour before midnight on Friday.
