One of Liverpool’s summer signings never considered Saudi Arabia to be a real option in the transfer window despite having a big offer on his table.
Arne Slot did only limited business in terms of incomings this summer, but the Reds did part with a host of players, including Sepp van den Berg, Bobby Clark and Fabio Carvalho.
Liverpool signed goalkeeper Giorgi Mamardashvili and winger Federico Chiesa.
Mamardashvili is currently on loan at La Liga Valencia for at least one season and it could be extended to another at the end of the current season.
The 23-year-old custodian impressed with his commanding displays at Euro 2024 and Liverpool ended up securing him.
The Georgian, though, had no shortage of suitors around the world, especially from the Saudi Pro League.
However, according to Spanish outlet Golsmedia, Mamardashvili rejected all advances from Saudi as he prioritised staying in Europe.
It has been suggested that the Saudi clubs were ready to splash €40m to €45m for the Georgian and had high wages ready for him, but the Reds man never considered the Saudi Pro League to be a real option.
Slot’s side will keep a close eye on Mamardashvili’s performances in Spain; he has conceded seven goals in four league matches.
