Rhys Williams has admitted at times he really struggled during his loan spell at Aberdeen as he was living in the Scottish city on his own.
The 23-year-old defender is a product of Liverpool’s youth academy and has been out on several loan spells away from the club, with his currently stint being in League Two at Morecambe.
Williams was sent on loan to Aberdeen for the 2023/24 campaign last term, but the loan deal came to an end in January without him having made an appearance for the Dons.
Having been affected by injury and a virus, Williams could not get up to speed at Aberdeen, but he admits living alone so far away from home also took a toll.
“I just couldn’t get myself in the right condition to play and it was so frustrating”, he told The Athletic about his Aberdeen loan spell.
“There were times when I was really struggling, living in Aberdeen on my own and not playing.
“My dad would drive up and see me to help give me a lift.
“I had trapped nerves in my back. My body was still growing and that was causing me some issues. It was one thing after another. I just didn’t feel good.
“They did my bloods when I went back to Liverpool and it came up with a virus, so that was part of the issue too.”
Williams is now trying to get back on track at Morecambe in League Two after being highly rated at Liverpool when he broke through into the first team mix.
His signing by Aberdeen had been considered a coup for the Scottish side.
