Arsenal have not made an official approach for Julian Draxler and the Germany international will remain at Schalke this month, a source at the club has claimed.

Transfer speculation over a potential move to Arsenal for the attacking midfielder has reached fever pitch, despite Gunners boss Arsene Wenger trying to temper realism into the debate by explaining talk of a deal is an "illusion".

And Schalke's view is much the same, that there is nothing in the speculation.

"On the one hand, there is no official contact with Arsenal", a source at the club told German daily Bild.

"Secondly, no one here is thinking about selling the player."

Draxler does have a €45.5m release clause in his contract which would render Schalke powerless to prevent his departure.

But that clause only applies in the summer, not the winter.

Draxler is currently sidelined for Schalke, out of action with a hamstring injury.
