Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has revealed why he decided to sign Kim Kallstrom on loan despite the midfielder being injured.

The Gunners snapped up Kallstrom on transfer deadline day, signing him up until the end of the campaign from Spartak Moscow.

His medical however showed an injured back, which could see him miss up to six games, in the worst-case scenario for Arsenal.

But Wenger still wanted to complete the deal.

Speaking via his club's feed after Arsenal beat Crystal Palace 2-0, Wenger said: "That is the best-case scenario [Kallstrom being fit at the end of February].

"I made the decision [to go through with the deal] because all our central midfielders have missed a part of the season."

And Wenger insists he knows exactly what he is getting with the player.

"I know [Kallstrom] very well, he has 108 caps for Sweden", he said.
