Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has revealed that he expects Kim Kallstrom to return to action by the end of this month.

The Swedish international, who joined the Gunners on transfer deadline day from Spartak Moscow on a loan deal, is currently sidelined with a back injury.

Arsenal were aware of Kallstrom’s injury during the medical but decided to go through with the deal.

And Wenger explained that although the midfielder is scheduled to return at the end of February, the 31-year-old may be back before that.

“[Being fit at the end of February] is the best-case scenario”, the manager told his club’s official site.

“I'm sure if you have played football you might have played with a micro-fracture of your vertebra without even noticing it because on a normal scan you don't find out.

“He might play before that but he might play as well later.”

Kallstrom, who was brought in by Wenger as a cover to the already depleted Arsenal midfield, will miss a clutch of high-voltage matches for his new employers this month.
