Barcelona have seen an offer for Croatian starlet Alen Halilovic knocked back by Dinamo Zagreb and the player himself, but one of the club's directors says that the Spanish champions are "determined" to sign the promising midfielder.

Halilovic was chased by Tottenham Hotspur last summer, with the English Premier League outfit looking to have a deal almost in the bag at one point. However, the 17-year-old was concerned about a lack of first team chances.

Arsenal and Borussia Dortmund have since joined the race for Halilovic's services, but Barcelona present a fearsome competitor for the pair.

Last month the Catalans saw an offer of €3.6m rejected by Dinamo Zagreb, with the Croatian club's director Zdravko Mamic commenting to Jutarnji List: "We received a bid from Barca, but it was not accepted as Dinamo and the Halilovic family were not entirely satisfied with the proposed terms.

"But I am sure it will not stop there.

"Barcelona are determined to put the transfer in place.

"But frankly I see him staying for three years at Dinamo."

Halilovic, a right-sided midfielder, has clocked up 13 appearances in the Croatian top flight so far this term, as well as turning out in Europe in Champions League qualifying and the Europa League.
