Ajax are moving to tie in-demand defender Joel Veltman to a new contract at the club, with his agent expecting further talks over an extension sooner rather than later.

Veltman is attracting much attention due to his mature performances for the Dutch champions, with Arsenal and Chelsea the latest clubs to join the race for his services. The 22-year-old, who made his Holland debut last year, has already seen himself linked to Manchester City and Manchester United.

However, Ajax are in no mood to lose Veltman so soon and, despite the defender's current deal running until 2017, an extension and improved terms are on the agenda.

"We had our first conversation and that went amicably", Veltman's agent Johan Wins told Ajax Showtime.

"We will now follow that up", he added.

The young centre-back, who is also able to operate at right-back, has clocked up 14 appearances in the Eredivisie for Frank de Boer's men in the current campaign.

Veltman also tasted Champions League football in the group stage, turning out against Celtic twice and Barcelona once.
