The spirit of the current Arsenal team should not be questioned, despite their 3-0 defeat at Everton today, boss Arsene Wenger believes.

From being serious Premier League title contenders, Arsenal now find themselves having to hold off a late surge from Everton for fourth place and the league's final Champions League qualification spot.

The Toffees further strengthened their case by taking apart Arsenal at Goodison Park and are now one point behind the Gunners and with a game in hand. But Wenger is certain that no one should start to doubt the spirit within his side, even if they have now made the race for a top four spot an open one.

The Frenchman said via his club's site: "I wouldn't question the spirit of this team.

"They are focused, they want to do well.

"I just feel they have lost something on the confidence front and that you could see. We looked a little bit disjointed when we had to run after the score."

Arsenal will now bid to bounce back from their defeat at Goodison Park when they lock horns with Wigan on Saturday in an FA Cup semi-final clash.
