Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain believes that if Arsenal can win the FA Cup this season then the taste of success can spur the team on to further triumphs.

The current crop at the Emirates Stadium is unaccustomed to picking up silverware, having last done so in 2005, when the FA Cup simply looked like a trophy certain to soon be proceeded by many more.

Arsenal came close in 2011, but lost in the League Cup final to Birmingham City. And Oxlade-Chamberlain is not underestimating the psychological importance of the side finally getting over the line.

"Once you do get that experience of winning the first one, you automatically build confidence that you can go on and do that again and again and again. That experience is vital", he told his club's site.

"The squad needs that, definitely.

"I always hear commentators talking about squads that have been around and have won things.

"They always mention the experience of winning, and knowing what it takes to win. They’ve only got that through winning trophies, and winning competitions.

"That is definitely something that will help this team to go on and push forward and be successful in the future. But it is just getting to that first one. It is a lot easier said than done."

And taking on Wigan today in an FA Cup semi-final clash, the England winger feels Arsenal's time is fast approaching.

"We are in a position now where we can make that happen, we are in a position where it is our responsibility to take that opportunity", he concluded.
