Barcelona sporting director Andoni Zubizarreta is a firm fan of Arsenal midfielder Mesut Ozil.

Ozil showed his qualities in La Liga with Real Madrid before switching to Arsenal last summer for a club-record fee of £42.5m, earning the nickname the "assist king".

Zubizarreta has not forgotten the Germany international's talents and is poised to probe Arsenal this summer to see if the midfielder can be taken back to Spain, according to El Mundo Deportivo.

Barcelona are looking to inject new blood into their ranks for 2014/15, having found themselves coming up short in the Copa del Rey and Champions League this term, while they also look likely to fail to defend their La Liga crown.

Zubizarreta, as sporting director, has a full inbox of requirements, but may struggle to land Ozil.

Gunners boss Arsene Wenger recently spoke of his belief that the German will grow into a second season at the Emirates Stadium.

"The first season is the season in which you adapt and then you know what will happen and you go into it", Wenger said earlier this month.

"And I believe that he will know better his partners, he will know better the league and the potential is absolutely fantastic. He will improve with goals and assists, and his presence in the game."
