France defender Laurent Koscielny has admitted that his side are not favourites to win the World Cup, but insisted that they can top their group.

Les Bleus, who qualified for the tournament after defeating Ukraine in a play-off in November, are pitted against Honduras, Switzerland and Ecuador in Group E.

And Koscielny is confident about France progressing to the knockout rounds of the World Cup.

“We are not favourites [to win the World Cup] but we’re in a group where we can finish first”, he told Arsenal Player.

The centre-back, who feels the “ambitious” French squad have a nice blend of youth and experience, wants his side to work as a unit to achieve success at the World Cup.

“We will go there with ambition”, he added.

“We have a young group and all the players can get more experience. It's very important for the experienced players to help the young ones because it's a big competition.

“We played well before so we just need to be together as a unit and see what we can do in the competition.”

France will begin their World Cup campaign against Honduras on Sunday before facing Switzerland five days later.

Didier Deschamps’ side will then take on Ecuador in their final group stage fixture on 25th June.
