Coppa Italia winners Napoli are interested in snapping up out-of-favour Barcelona midfielder Alex Song.

The Cameroonian, who has also emerged as a target for Louis van Gaal's Manchester United, has been put up for sale by Barcelona, with the Catalan giants thought to be looking for a fee of around €25m to sanction his departure.

Napoli, who had been intent on snapping up Javier Mascherano from Barcelona to bolster their midfield, have been forced to focus on Song after the Argentine penned a new contract at the Camp Nou.

According to Catalan daily Sport, Napoli have firmly entered the race for Song, although the player's future is not likely to be resolved until after the World Cup.

Song is currently in Brazil with Cameroon, who have lost both of their two group games so far.
