Alexis Sanchez is hungry to succeed at Arsenal, Gunners boss Arsene Wenger believes.

Wenger splashed £30m of Arsenal's transfer budget on capturing the Chile forward from Barcelona earlier this summer and has already seen enough to know he has a player desperate to do well in English football on his hands.

The French tactician knows Sanchez will have to undergo an adaptation period as he settles into the Premier League, but has backed him to flourish.

"He has all the ingredients to be a Premier League player", Wenger explained at a press conference this morning.

"He is hungry to adapt."

The Arsenal boss quickly switched his attention to the side's Premier League opener against Crystal Palace tomorrow however, a game Sanchez is likely to be involved in.

"We've had a serene environment in pre-season but what is important is how we perform at 5.30 on Saturday", he said.

Wenger also admits to being surprised by Tony Pulis leaving Palace on the eve of the new season.

"It was a complete surprise for me. The only thing you can say is he's done a remarkable job there."
