Scottish champions Celtic are keen to sign Ghana winger Mubarak Wakaso from Rubin Kazan on loan, according to the BBC.

The 24-year-old joined the Russian outfit from Espanyol last summer and has a contract until 2017.

Wakaso made only 18 appearances in all competitions for Rubin Kazan last season however, and failed to nail down a starting spot at the club.

Now Celtic are keen to sign the winger and are working on a deal to bring him to Scotland this week, as they bid to increase their options.

The Scottish champions want Wakaso to play in the first leg of their Champions League playoff tie against Maribor this Wednesday, therefore the club are trying to fast-track the deal.

Wakaso started his career at Ghana with Ashanti Gold before moving to Spain, first with Elche then Villarreal before switching to Espanyol in 2012.

He has earned 15 international caps for Ghana and has struck the back of the net for his country seven times. He also made a substitute appearance in the World Cup.

Celtic have until Tuesday night to complete the deal for the Ghana winger and register the player if the Hoops wish him to play in either of the two legs against Maribor.
