Italian publication Tuttosport has announced the 40-strong shortlist for this year's Golden Boy award, with a whole host of household names in the running for the accolade

The Golden Boy award is handed to the player under the age of 21 in Europe who is judged to have been the most impressive over the course of the year.

Rafael van der Vaart won the first award in 2003, when he was plying his trade at Ajax, before Wayne Rooney picked up the 2004 accolade.

Lionel Messi won the award in 2005, while last year's award went to Paul Pogba of Juventus.

Arsenal have one contender in Calum Chambers, while Liverpool have two in Raheem Sterling and Lazar Markovic.
