La Liga giants Sevilla are lining up a bid for Arsenal target and Celtic defender Virgil van Dijk in January.

The Dutchman joined Celtic last summer from Dutch outfit FC Groningen and played a key role in the club winning the Scottish league title, while he also impressed in the Champions League.

He is also one of the cornerstones of new manager Ronny Deila’s side, who are slowly getting back to their groove in this campaign, following an early Champions League exit.

Van Dijk’s performances in Scotland have not gone unnoticed and Arsenal have been heavily linked with moving to sign the defender in the winter transfer window.

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger, who sold Thomas Vermaelen to Barcelona in the summer, revealed last month that he wants to bring in a defender in January and Van Dijk is believed to be one of his targets.

But the Gunners are set to face stiff competition from La Liga side Sevilla, who are keen to sign a defender once the transfer window opens in January.

And Los Rojiblancos are ready to fork out between €10m and €15m to acquire the services of the Dutch defender, according to Spanish daily El Desmarque.

The pressure on Celtic to sell Van Dijk will only increase in the future and it remains to be seen for how long the club can hold on to the highly-rated Dutch defender.
