New Celtic signing Gary Mackay-Steven admits that scoring on his debut for the club settled down a few nerves for him.

The 24-year-old arrived at Celtic on transfer deadline day from Dundee United, but was ineligible for their fifth round Scottish Cup tie against Dundee at the weekend.

Therefore he had to wait until last night’s away trip to Partick Thistle to make his first appearance for his new club and he scored the opener in the first minute in Celtic’s 3-0 win over their Glasgow rivals, which moved them three points clear at the top of the Scottish Premiership.

The winger is naturally delighted to make his debut for the Bhoys and admits that scoring in the derby did settle down some of the butterflies in his stomach.

“I’m obviously delighted to have made my debut, first and foremost, and to score straight away settled some nerves”, the Scot told the club’s official website.

“It was a great day all round for me.”

Mackay-Steven admits that it was frustrating to sit in the stands against Dundee last weekend and said that he was itching to wear the Celtic colours for the first time against Partick Thistle last night.

“I have been here just over a week and I was itching to just play my first game.

“I was ineligible at the weekend and I didn’t like watching from the stands, I just wanted to be out there with the boys.

Mackay-Steven will aim to build on his promising debut this coming weekend against St. Johnstone.
