Dimitar Berbatov feels Monaco wanted to win more than Arsenal after they outplayed the Gunners to run out 3-1 winners at the Emirates Stadium in the Champions League tonight.

Arsenal were hugely off-colour in the first 45 minutes and Monaco took the lead through Geoffrey Kondogbia in the 38th minute, sending the visitors in 1-0 up at the half time break, which was no less than they deserved.

In the second half Monaco upped their performance and dominated Arsenal, eventually tempting the Gunners onto them and then breaking with speed. Dimitar Berbatov found space on the break and guided the ball past Arsenal goalkeeper David Ospina.

Arsenal though felt that they had got back into the game in injury time when Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain curled the ball into the back of the net.

But no sooner had Arsenal got back into the match than Monaco broke and went down the other end, scoring through Yannick Ferreira-Carrasco just before the full-time whistle. They are now in a commanding position ahead of the second leg.

For Berbatov, Monaco simply wanted the win more than Arsenal and were very good value for it.

"Nobody expected that probably", he told Sky Sports.

"We are confident in our ability and we deserved to win. But it's not over and Arsenal are still a dangerous team. We will think about the next game when it comes.

"We are good.

"Arsenal are a good team, but we wanted the win more than them.

"We were fighting all over the pitch, winning our challenges and we won."
