Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has refused to write his side off when it comes to challenging Chelsea for the Premier League title this season, though he admits at present they are a long way off doing so.

The Gunners beat Everton on Sunday to win their third straight Premier League match and, with second placed Manchester City losing at Liverpool, cut the gap to the Citizens to just four points.

And Wenger takes inspiration from how Manchester City recovered from being eight points behind the leaders three years ago to surge through and take the title.

"At the moment we are nowhere near to winning the Premier League, and nowhere near close to being in the race", he admitted, via the BBC.

But Wenger, whose side are nine points off leaders Chelsea, added: "At the moment we are too far from Chelsea to say we are in the title race, but you never know what can happen.

"I speak as well about Manchester City, why should they give up for the title? They have done it three years ago from being eight points behind."

Wenger's men have the chance to extend their winning run tomorrow evening when they lock horns with relegation strugglers QPR at Loftus Road.

Then the Gunners take a break from Premier League action with a Monday evening FA Cup trip to face Manchester United at Old Trafford.
