Ronny Deila has hit out at his Celtic players, accusing them of showing a lack of fight this evening against St Johnstone, a game they lost 1-0.

Celtic looked to be anything but at the races from the start, with St Johnstone able to cope with what Deila's men threw their way.

The hosts even had to survive a nervous moment in the first half when goalkeeper Craig Gordon failed to gather a St Johnstone cross, in one of the first signs all was not well.

It was 0-0 at half time, but Celtic did not improve as expected after the first half, with the second half seeing St Johnstone growing into the game at Paradise.

The visitors then got their reward when Danny Swanson hit a superb 25-yard strike which gave Gordon no chance and put Celtic 1-0 down in the 54th minute.

Celtic tried to push for an equaliser, but had nothing left in the tank and slipped to a shock home defeat, meaning they miss the chance to extend their lead over Aberdeen at the top of the Scottish Premiership table.

Deila was not pleased with his side's display and believes fighting spirit was lacking. But the manager insisted his team will soon have the chance to make amends.

"It’s not about finding excuses. The performance wasn’t good enough", he told a press conference.

"I am disappointed, but we have to bounce back on Sunday and find a positive from this in the end.

"Every time we play in Scotland we are favourites and should win. Tonight there was a lack of fight.

"There is always another chance in football and that’s a positive. We have four days to make it right."

And Deila added: "We have to move on and learn from this and make ourselves ready for Sunday. That’s the only way we can put this right."
