Celtic manager Ronny Deila believes that his side did enough to beat Dundee United in their Scottish Cup quarter-final tie today, which finished 1-1 at Tannardice.

The Scottish Cup clash got off to a fierce start, with Celtic's Virgil van Dijk and Dundee United's Paul Paton sent off on the ten minute mark.

Paton did not appear to be involved in the incident in question, which did involve Van Dijk and his Celtic team-mate Scott Brown, and Dundee United's Calum Butcher.

The hosts then took the lead on the stroke of half-time, being awarded a penalty when Anthony Stokes fouled Aidan Connolly in the box, allowing Nadir Ciftci the chance to score – and he made no mistake.

Celtic had the chance to draw level after the start of the second half though when they were given a penalty. But Leigh Griffiths fluffed his lines and failed to convert from the spot. Dundee United were reduced to nine men in the incident though, the penalty coming about when Paul Dixon blocked a shot with his hand.

Griffiths though made amends for his miss when Stefan Johansen picked him out with a superb ball in the 70th minute, allowing the striker to head Celtic level.

No more goals arrived though, meaning a replay is needed to separate the sides.

For Deila, Celtic did enough to win the match and only have themselves to blame for having to go to a replay.

"Yes, we should have [won the game]", he told Sky Sports.

"In the second half we had a lot of chances and we should have killed the game", Deila continued.

"It was a tough game and we are still in it.

"Now it [the replay] is as home and so that is a positive thing.

"We created four or five big chances and should have won the game."
