Italian Serie A side Palermo have made a bid of €5m for Arsenal forward Joel Campbell, but the Gunners want €10m for the Costa Rica international.

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger loaned Campbell to Villarreal for the second half of last season in a deal which saw defender Gabriel Paulista move to the Emirates Stadium on a permanent basis.

Campbell faces fierce competition for a regular first team spot at Arsenal next season and the Gunners are prepared to let him leave for the right price.

Palermo president Maurizio Zamparini has flown to England to start talks with the Premier League side, but has found himself stung by the Gunners' demands.

According to Italian daily Gazzetta dello Sport, Palermo have placed a bid of €5m on Arsenal's table for Campbell, but have been told to double it if they want to sign the forward.

Zamparini is keen to snap up Campbell in time for next season, however it remains to be seen if he is prepared to double his side's offer to €10m.

The 23-year-old has been sent out on loan by Arsenal on a number of occasions since joining the club in 2011.

Campbell has played his football in France with Lorient, in Spain at Real Betis, in Greece with Olympiacos, while he then returned to Spain for the latter half of last term to turn out for Villarreal.
