Palermo defender Giancarlo Gonzalez has backed his club's pursuit of Arsenal forward Joel Campbell.

The Serie A giants have lodged a bid of €5m for the Costa Rica international, but have been told to double it by Arsenal, if they wish to snap up Campbell.

Palermo's president Maurizio Zamparini is working hard to do a deal for the former Villarreal man and has been backed in his efforts by Gonzalez.

Asked about Campbell at a press conference, Gonzalez replied: "I think that there's interest in him. He would be good for Palermo.

"He's left-sided, quick, good in one-on-one situations", he added.

Gonzalez is a Costa Rica international and has played alongside Campbell for the Central American nation. However, he would not be drawn into comparing Campbell with Paulo Dybala, who Palermo sold to Juventus for €32m earlier this summer.

"Campbell and Dybala are two great players and it's hard to make comparisons."

And the 27-year-old defender, who linked up with Palermo last year from American side Columbus Crew, says he has not spoken to Campbell about the two of them playing alongside each other as where the striker moves to is a private matter.

"Have I spoken to him? They are private things. We haven't spoken.

"But he knows that I would give him all my support here."
