Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger admits that Francis Coquelin could have picked up a serious injury in the Gunners' 2-1 defeat at West Brom today.

Coquelin was forced off in the 14th minute, but it appeared as if it would be a routine Premier League match for Arsenal when they went ahead in the 28th minute.

Mesut Ozil swung in a free-kick and Olivier Giroud connected with his head, making it 1-0 to the Gunners.

But the Baggies did not need long to get back on level terms and in the 35th minute James Morrison got on the end of a ball from Chris Brunt to bundle into the net.

The hosts were then ahead in the 40th minute, as Mikel Arteta put the ball into his own net from a James McClaren cross.

Arteta, who had replaced Coquelin, then himself was replaced by Mathieu Flamini in the 49th minute.

Arsenal did have a golden chance to equalise in the 85th minute when a penalty was awarded, but Santi Cazorla slipped and missed from the spot.

The Gunners lost, but concerns were instantly raised for Coquelin and Arteta, given Arsenal's injury situation.

"Arteta looks to be a calf problem", Wenger told the BBC.

"Coquelin looks to be a bit more severe, with a knee problem."
