Manchester United boss Louis van Gaal has compared Jamie Vardy’s impact this season to former Arsenal striker Dennis Bergkamp.

The Leicester City striker has been in scintillating form this season and has scored ten league games in a row, equalling former Manchester United striker Ruud van Nistelrooy’s Premier League record.

His performances this season have elevated the Foxes to the top of the Premier League table, a feat very few predicted at the start of the 2015/16 campaign.

Vardy was a thorn in Manchester United’s flesh last season too when he played a starring role in Leicester’s famous 5-3 win over the Red Devils at King Power Stadium and Van Gaal remembers that ‘nasty’ performance from the striker.

The Dutchman gave credit to Vardy for his consistency this season and admits other than Bergkamp at Ajax, he has not managed anyone who has shown such consistency as the England international.

Van Gaal said in a press conference: "He was already last year a very nasty player for us.

“He scored, he provoked a penalty and now he is scoring in a row ten goals so now you are a great player.

“I only know, for example, Dennis Bergkamp as a player with me did the same with Ajax and that is not so easy."

Manchester United have the best defensive record this season and Van Gaal will be hoping Chris Smalling and company manage to neutralise Vardy’s threat tomorrow at Leicester.
