Arsene Wenger has indicated that he expects to enjoy a quiet winter transfer window deadline day and is unlikely to sign any players today.

The Gunners signed defensive midfielder Mohamed Elneny from FC Basel during the January window and could still see Mathieu Debuchy leave the club, with Aston Villa and Sunderland interested in acquiring his services.

However, the club are unlikely to see any more incoming transfers on deadline day as Wenger indicated that he is almost certain to not sign any more players before the window slams shut tonight.

But he added that if a desirable player becomes available a transfer could happen and joked if Lionel Messi wants to join the club today, then he will certainly consider signing the Barcelona superstar.

When asked whether he will sign any more players today, the Arsenal boss said in a press conference held this morning: "Well, 100% is difficult to say, 99% yes.

“But you know always anything can happen.

"Somebody can knock at your door.

"If Lionel Messi knocks at my door at ten to six tonight I will not say please go back to Barcelona.”

Wenger famously signed Mesut Ozil from Real Madrid on transfer deadline in the summer of 2013, and repeated the trick an year later by snapping up Danny Welbeck from Manchester United.
