Former France international David Trezeguet has lauded Arsenal striker Olivier Giroud for silencing his critics with his goals and performances.

The French forward has been battling his critics since joining Arsenal in 2012, and there are many voices that suggest that he is not the top class striker who has the ability to bring trophies to the Emirates Stadium.

However, the 29-year-old has been one of the key reasons behind Arsenal’s impressive league form this season and has repaid some of Arsene Wenger’s faith in him by bagging 18 goals in all competitions this term.

Trezeguet is impressed with the way his compatriot has shown strength of character by fighting through difficult moments and believes Giroud has regularly made his critics eat their own words by scoring goals for both club and country.

The former Juventus and France striker told beIN Sport when asked about Giroud: “Of course Olivier had difficult times, but I am convinced that he is strong in his mind.

“Each time he was criticised with his club he has shown what he is capable of; also with the national team he has answered his critics.”

Giroud has 76 goals in 169 appearances for Arsenal and has also netted ten times in 41 outings for the French national team.
