Celtic boss Ronny Deila has admitted that he wants to keep Charlie Mulgrew at the club, provided he remains clear of injuries.

Mulgrew returned to action in the 2-0 win over East Kilbride in a Scottish Cup game last weekend after he remained sidelined for over four months with a thigh injury.

The defender, whose present contract with Celtic is set to expire in the summer, has been linked with a move away from the club next season, with English duo Bournemouth and Blackburn Rovers in the hunt.

But Deila insisted that the Scotland international could be a resource for Celtic if he manages to remain injury free.

“He has played only one game in, I don’t know how long, it has been a very long time, maybe eight months or something”, he said at yesterday’s pre-match press conference.

“Now his focus and our focus is to get him up to his best level, and he can be very valuable for us and for Scotland.

“Do I want to keep Mulgrew at Celtic? Injury-free Charlie Mulgrew is of course a resource for us.”

Mulgrew, who joined Celtic from Aberdeen in 2010, has thus far amassed 198 appearances in all competitions for the Scottish champions, scoring 29 times and setting up 34 goals.

The 29-year-old also has 21 caps and a solitary goal for Scotland to his name.
