Celtic manager Ronny Deila admits that the squad he has assembled at Celtic Park is now too big.

Deila recently added to his group by bringing in 17-year-old Norwegian midfield wonderkind Kristoffer Ajer, although the talent will not officially land at the Bhoys until this summer.

He was active in the winter transfer window, recalling Ryan Christie from his loan at Inverness, snapping up winger Patrick Roberts on a loan deal from Manchester City and bringing in defender Erik Sviatchenko from FC Midtjylland.

Deila, whose side beat Inverness 3-0 today to move six points clear at the top of the Scottish Premiership, admits he has too many players on the books.

"I agree it is too big now", he was quoted as saying by the BBC.

"It starts with being 100% committed to Celtic and, if you do that, you will get your rewards.

"You see that with Kieran Tierney, with Callum McGregor coming back and Tom Rogic coming through.

"There's lots of players coming through and that's because they work harder", Deila continued, suggesting more players have put themselves in the picture, making the competition for places fierce.

"But if they get lazy then they are not in the team. That's how it is at big clubs and this is a big club – you have to fight for the jersey."

The Norwegian, whose position as Celtic manager has been under pressure this season, feels that a reasonably big squad is needed to compete for honours.

But the current group has now tipped over the edge and is too large.

"To get people to progress, you need a big squad, but I think it's a little too big now."
