Leigh Griffiths has explained that his target is to become the highest goalscorer in a single edition of the Scottish Premiership, something which would see him break Celtic legend Henrik Larsson’s record.
The 25-year-old has been in prolific form in the present campaign, scoring 32 goals in 38 appearances in all competitions, with 24 of those coming in the league.
Ex-Sweden international Larsson, who achieved cult status amongst the Celtic faithful, currently holds the record for scoring the most goals in a Premiership season when he smashed 35 goals in the 2000/01 campaign.
Griffiths, who scored a brace in the 3-0 win over Inverness CT at the weekend, needs to find the back of the net a further 12 times this season to break Larsson’s long standing record.
And the Scot insisted that he will be delighted if he indeed manages to attain the feat.

“If I can beat the record, I would be a happy, happy guy. It would be massive”, he was quoted as saying by the Scotland Herald.
“Henrik Larsson is the best striker who has played for this club. To be up there with the likes of him, Chris Sutton and John Hartson is great, but I want to make a name for myself.
“The only way I can do that is by playing well and scoring goals.
“We will see what happens in the future, but it would be great if people were to say: ‘Here comes the record goalscorer.’”
Griffiths, who joined Celtic from Hibernian in January 2014, has thus far scored 59 goals in 93 games for the Scottish champions.
