Hamilton Academical manager Martin Canning has said that his side’s 1-1 draw with Celtic last night “feels like a win”.

The Accies, who were beaten by the Scottish champions twice in the present campaign, with the last defeat coming in the form of an 8-1 rout at Celtic Park in late January, fell behind at New Douglas Park, courtesy of Leigh Griffiths’ 35th minute penalty.

Celtic were then reduced to 10 men in the 42nd minute after Dedryck Boyata brought down Carlton Morris, with the referee showing the Belgian defender a straight red card.

Hamilton made their numerical superiority count after the break as Eamonn Brophy scored the equaliser for the hosts with 17 minutes left.

And Canning, who thinks the draw helped Hamilton to restore some pride after the 8-1 bashing at Celtic, insisted that his side would have gladly settled for a draw if it was on offer before the game.

“This one restores a bit of pride”, he was quoted as saying by the Scotland Herald.

“Everyone was hurting after the last game at Celtic Park when we lost 8-1, but we showed we can get over that and put on a performance.

“It feels like a win in a way and we would have taken a point before the game.”

Hamilton, who have played a game more than Celtic, are currently ninth in the Scottish Premiership with 30 points from 28 outings.
