New Nice coach Lucien Favre admits that he is aware that he was on Everton's managerial shortlist, but he didn’t want to wait any longer to decide his future.

The 58-year-old is a well respected coach in European football, but a horrendous start to the Bundesliga season meant that he left Borussia Monchengladbach last year.

And until recently there was talk that Everton were keen to see the former Swiss international succeed Robert Martinez at Goodison Park, but Favre was appointed as Nice coach earlier this week.

The Swiss admits that before agreeing the deal with the French outfit he was aware that Everton have been looking at him as a possible replacement for Martinez, but he was not keen to wait any longer to decide his future.

The Nice boss told RTS Sport: “I know that I was on Everton's shortlist, but I did not want to wait any more.”
