Celtic captain Scott Brown has insisted that new boss Brendan Rodgers will be great for the Glasgow based club.

30-year-old Brown, who made 22 appearances in the Scottish Premiership last season for the Celts, has been at the club since 2007 when he joined from Hibernian for a fee in the region of £4.4m.

New manager Rodgers, who has previously managed Liverpool and Swansea, was welcomed by fans at a packed Celtic Park following his appointment in May.

Brown has claimed that Rodgers is a manager who will be great for the Scottish Premiership champions.

He told the official Celtic website: “It’s just a positive vibe throughout the whole club – the fans, everyone at Celtic Park and at Lennoxtown.

“I had a good five or six weeks off for the first time in about 10 years, so it’s been straight back into training and I feel fine and as fit as I was last season when I was playing injury-free.

“It’s a fresh start for everyone, including me, and I need to show the manager what I can do on the park and off the park in the dressing room, and show everyone at Celtic Park as well because last season was hard for everyone.

“Now we’ve got a new manager and a fresh start, and I’m looking forward to it. I know he’s going to be good for me and he’ll be great for the other lads too.”

A central midfielder by trade, Brown has captained the Hoops since 2010 and has appeared over 350 times for the club.

The Scotsman was sidelined from the last few games of the previous season due to an injury to his hamstring, just before Ronny Deila parted ways with Celtic.
