Arsene Wenger feels Arsenal completed their transfer business earlier than most clubs, and believes his two new signings will provide him with some interesting options this season.

Arsenal captured the signature of Granit Xhaka from Borussia Monchengladbach early in the summer, but it was followed by weeks of inactivity as Wenger dithered over bringing in a new defender and a forward.

And in the final week of the window, the Frenchman captured the signatures of Shkodran Mustafi and Lucas Perez to draw a line on Arsenal’s transfer business last month.

Despite criticism from a section of the fans, Wenger is of the opinion that Arsenal completed their transfer business earlier than most as they didn’t stretch out the deals until deadline day.

The Arsenal boss said in a press conference: “We did it quite early compared to some other clubs.

“We did our job on Saturday, and the transfer deadline day was on Wednesday.”

Wenger feels the addition of Mustafi and Perez will add more experience and options to his squad for this season as Arsenal look to mount a title challenge after a slow start to the campaign.

“Mustafi is a young centre-back and already has experience.

“Lucas Perez is an interesting striker who can score goals, but can also provide assists. He has some interesting qualities.”
