Celtic have been linked with being in the mix to try and land a season-long loan deal for Manchester City youngster Douglas Luiz.

Luiz, 20, joined the Premier League champions from Brazilian club Vasco da Gama last year for a reported fee of £12m before being loaned out to Girona in La Liga.

The Brazilian impressed during his spell at the Spanish top flight and despite concrete interest from Girona to try and bring the midfielder back on a second stint, the Sky Blues expressed their desire to keep him at the Etihad by applying for a work permit.

However, Luiz was denied a work permit earlier this month, and it now means that Manchester City are again looking to loan him out.

Celtic have been linked with wanting the 20-year-old, according to the Herald Scotland, and less rigorous work permit regulations in Scotland could play a part in the player joining the Scottish Premiership giants before the end of Friday.

Bhoys boss Brendan Rodgers has stressed the fact that the his side need more signings to compete across all competitions.
