Former Celtic star Kris Commons believes that the Bhoys' 1-0 win over Rangers at Parkhead shows that there is still a big gap between the two sides.

Celtic were firmly on top in the opening 45 minutes of the Scottish Premiership encounter and hit the bar twice as they pushed for a goal.

Steven Gerrard's Rangers showed resilience, but Celtic made the breakthrough in the 62nd minute, with the hosts launching a superb counter-attack which went the length of the pitch and was finished off by Olivier Ntcham.

Celtic saw out the game to take all three points and Commons thinks Rangers are still a work in progress.

He does expect Rangers to improve, but still sees a big gap between the two teams.

Commons said on Sky Sports: "Rangers are still a work in progress. They've thrown together a lot of new players.

"They will get better.

"But it shows you after this performance that they are a long way off Celtic at the moment", he added.

Both Celtic and Rangers now head into the international break, meaning they are not next in action for over ten days.

The Bhoys next take on St Mirren in an away league clash on 14th September, while Rangers play Dundee at Ibrox on 15th September.
