Former Premier League midfielder Robbie Savage believes that Lucas Torreira has made a big impact at Arsenal and has made the players around him perform better.

Torreira was signed from Sampdoria in the summer and after a slow start, the Uruguayan has become an integral part of the team in recent weeks.

The Gunners are yet to lose a game since their defeat against Chelsea in August and Torreira’s tenacious displays in midfield have played a key role in the unbeaten run.

The 22-year old has started in the last 11 games and has scored two goals in the process, including a stunning overhead kick to hand the Gunners a narrow win against Huddersfield Town.

Savage feels that the Uruguayan is the heartbeat of the current Arsenal side and has made players around him look better.

“He’s made players around him better”, Savage said on BT Sport.

“You look at [Granit] Xhaka’s performances this season, he’s been superb.

"[Aaron] Ramsey, when he has come into the team, has been very very good.

“Torreira is the heartbeat of that side.

"I think they have missed somebody like that.”

The Gunners travel to St Mary’s to take on Southampton on Sunday in their next Premier League game.
