Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang is confident that Arsenal are now within touching distance of reaching the Europa League final following a 3-1 win over Valencia.

The Gunners got the better of the Spanish giants in the first leg of their Europa League semi-final tie, thanks in no small part to Aubameyang.

Arsenal fell behind in the eleventh minute when Mouctar Diakhaby headed Valencia ahead, but the lead lasted only seven minutes when Alexandre Lacazette scored.

Lacazette then headed in a cross from Granit Xhaka in the 25th minute to put Arsenal 2-1 up, while Aubameyang netted at the death to give the Gunners a two-goal cushion before the second leg in Spain.

Aubameyang thinks his goal could be important and is convinced Arsenal are now within touching distance of the final, where winning the Europa League to return to the Champions League will be their aim.

"That goal will hopefully be important", he said on BT Sport after the match.

"We did not start the game so good, but we had a good reaction after that. We played very well and won this game.

"We started the game a bit nervous because we lost the last game, that's normal, we're humans.

"We have a lot of qualities in this group and we can go to the final, but we know the next game will be difficult. If we can do the same there then we will of course go through.

"It is our target to reach the final and win this trophy because we know it's an opportunity to qualify for next year's Champions League", the striker added.

Valencia will know if they can beat Arsenal 2-0 in the second leg in Spain then they will qualify on away goals, but the Gunners will be looking to score to put the tie to bed.
