It was the Germany international that the Yorkshire outfit turned to when their efforts to make Ben White’s loan move from Brighton permanent failed earlier in the transfer window.

Signing for the Elland Road outfit from Freiburg for a fee in the region of £12m, Koch has started each of their three Premier League games so far.

However, the 24-year-old has admitted that he was not immediately convinced of a move to Leeds when they first expressed their interest in him, primarily because they had not sealed promotion then.

But as the Yorkshire-based club’s interest grew, Koch started entertaining the idea of linking up with Marcelo Bielsa’s side before ultimately doing so in August.

Leeds’ interest came early“, Koch told German broadcaster SPORT1.

I have to honestly say that at the time I didn’t immediately say: ‘Wow, I’ll do that right away.’

At the time, the club were still playing in the Championship and it was not certain that they would be promoted to the Premier League.

Over time, however, the interest grew and I became more and more involved with the club.

Koch went on to reveal how Leeds’ ambitions and long-term plans convinced him to choose the Whites over other interested clubs.

At some point I told my agent that I could actually imagine moving to Leeds, despite several requests from other clubs“, the centre-back added.

The more I dealt with the club, the more it worked for me.

Leeds are not a normal promoted club. The club have big plans for the next few years.

Koch had a tough start to his life in the Premier League, conceding a penalty in each of his first two matches, but made a comeback by helping Leeds keep a clean sheet against Sheffield United.
