Goldson was one of Steven Gerrard’s first signings at Rangers and he has played a massive role in turning them into Scottish champions this season.
The defender has played every minute of Rangers’ league campaign and has been a big presence in a team who have the best defensive record in the Scottish Premiership this term.
Flanagan, who played with Goldson at Rangers, stressed that his importance can be gauged from the fact that Gerrard has complete faith in the player and what he brings to the team.
The former Gers star insisted that Goldson is a massive character inside the dressing room as well and a real leader in the way he guides and helps other team-mates in order to get the best out of them.
“The trust that Gerrard has in him to play all those games shows you how great a player he is”, the defender told The Athletic.
“In the dressing room, he’s a big character.
“There are always going to be arguments and opinions thrown around when things aren’t going well but if something is there to be said he will give his opinion on it.
“That’s what you want, guiding and helping the team.
“He’s always talking in team meetings too.”
Goldson has featured 45 times for Rangers in all competitions and is one of the cornerstones of their success this season.
