Tottenham suffered an embarrassing 1-0 defeat in the first leg of their Europa Conference League playoff tie in Portugal.

Lucas Silva scored at the stroke of half-time to give the lead to the home side and they managed to keep the north London club at bay for the rest of the night.

Pacos came into the game on the back of a 3-0 defeat to Boavista and Simao was delighted that his side managed to correct the mistakes of their previous loss and showed a certain level of consistency in their performance.

He pointed out the embarrassing difference in quality between Tottenham and his side but stressed that Pacos could have won the game by a bigger margin had they been more clinical.

Simao was quoted as saying by Portuguese sports daily A Bola: “We played a good and consistent game.

“We improved in the aspects of the game where we didn’t do well in the last game.

“We were competitive throughout the match and we didn’t fail in the moments that led to the result of the last game.

“We could have achieved a bigger margin despite the difference between the two teams and the eleven that Tottenham put out.”

Spurs will look to get over the defeat soon as Nuno Espirito Santo prepares to take them to his former side Wolves on Sunday.
