The Reds only added one fresh face to their ranks in the recently concluded transfer window by roping in centre-back Ibrahima Konate from RB Leipzig for a fee around the £36m mark.
Liverpool were focused on extending the contracts of their existing stars over the summer and managed to offload the likes of Xherdan Shaqiri, Taiwo Awoniyi and Harry Wilson.
Reds legend Carragher has tipped the Merseyside giants to spend big money in the transfer market in a year’s time as the club should have more funds available having extended contracts of several key players this summer.
Carragher added that given the present average age of Jurgen Klopp’s squad, they will need to bring in a lot of young players and thus a big transfer window is due soon.
“When assessing Liverpool’s spending under Klopp, the spree of 2018/19 was game-changing, albeit partially funded by Phillipe Coutinho’s sale to Barcelona”, Carragher wrote in his Daily Telegraph column.
“Those pivotal purchases will serve the club into a fourth season, and will thrive for longer.
“However, you cannot help look at the age of Klopp’s squad without arguing another big transfer window is due soon.
“With so many key players tied down for the long-term, there should be more funds available to buy new players in a year’s time.”
Liverpool are trying to tie down superstar Mohamed Salah to a new deal, having extended the contracts of key players in the likes of Virgil van Dijk, Alisson Becker, Trent Alexander-Arnold and Andrew Robertson over the summer.
